Introduction to the Peljesac Peninsula
Stretching almost 90 km from end to end the narrow strip of land seems more like an island than part of the mainland. It is best known for its superb red wine , Dingac and Postup being the most famous. Mountains, pretty hamlets, vineyards and some fine villas add to the attraction. A single road leads from end to end offering spectacular views of the islands of Mljet, Lastovo and Korcula as well as the mainland. Little has changed here and it is an ideal retreat for those looking to "get off the beaten track", yet Dubrovnik, Korcula and Mljet are all accessible. Fear of pirates in earlier times meant that most settlements grew on the southern slopes, with Ston & Orebic being the most notable seaside resorts.Worth a visit for its wine cellars, oysters and other sea food and for its unspoilt countryside.
